Students will place a design on a martinhouse gourd. Using a wood carvers gouge and following the design, students will chip carve pattern. Chip Carving technique will be taught,and practiced on gourd pieces. Staining and applying the final finish will be added along with leather cord for hanging.
INSTRUCTOR PROVIDES
Clean whole gourd thick enough for chip carviing. Also included are sand paper, stain, rubber gloves, shoe polish, leather cord for hanging and spray polyurethane. Bird holes will also be drilled. Bird House roof is NOT included in this class.
STUDENT SHOULD BRING
A protective glove, a wood carvers gouge # 11 X 3/16th inch, a drawing compass, a flexible ruler, and a pencil.
