The student will learn to cut a releif of an angel fish and surround it with a simple filigree pattern. The class activities will include: Stain a gourd bowl using ink or acrylic stain; cut arround the angle fish, power-carve, and sand a smooth 4-5 inch circle into the gourd bowl; using a small reamer cut a filigree pattern of ocean bubbles; cut a ledge for sand and shells at the bottom of the design. The ocean bubble pattern will be carried into the stained part of the gourd. The Angel fish and framing surround will be painted with acrylic paint, if time permits.
INSTRUCTOR PROVIDES
The Instructor will furnish the stain, paint, and instructions. Each student will also receive 4 carving burrs for class use and to take home with them:
Filigree burr, 1/8 Round, Structured Ball, and Inverted cone.
STUDENT SHOULD BRING
The student should bring a cut, clean, thick shell gourd 5" to 7" diameter, dust mask, Dremel-type power tool with a flex-shaft, secure tool stand or table mount, small paint brushes ,and sanding drums. Bring any small sanding tools that you may have.
