Ancient Japanese art of braiding can now be done on a simple portable foam loom using assorted cords and yarns. Learn simple but elegant kumihimo braiding, incorporating beads as you work. Practice first on a keychain, then start a necklace project you can finish over the weekend. Feel free to email Kathy with questions about supplies, klaymaker@aol.com.
The Instructor will provide the following:
Kumihimo Braiding Kit, size 6 seed beads, wide-eye needle, endcaps with clasp, detailed color instructions,
screw eye for hanging gourd, superglue, keychain loop.
Students must bring:
Scissors and four skeins of embroidery thread in 4 complementary or favorite colors
Optional: bring a cleaned mini gourd without stem, either decorated or plain, for hanging on finished braid.
Students may save:
Students may bring their own following supplies: Kumihimo Braiding Kit (includes one kumihimo braiding
loom/disc, eight plastic bobbins for winding thread, two yards each of practice yarn in two colors (total of 4
yards), and beginning kumihimo instructions) for a savings of $14.00. Also, save an additional $2.00 if you bring
200 size 6 seed beads in your choice of colors and $1.00 if you bring a wide-eye needle for stringing beads.
Save $2.25 by bringing silver or gold endcaps with clasp for finishing ends.
(You may bring cardboard DMC floss winders and small rubber bands instead of the 8 bobbins.) All supplies,
including selection of DMC embroidery thread, available in class or from vendors as well.
