Saturday Afternoon 1 - 5
Learn how to carve small line details with dental bits, take away background, overlap objects in scene for depth and "color" in with transtint dyes. If time allows a coiled rim treatment with round reed can be added.
INSTRUCTOR PROVIDES
I will provide: dental bits, collets that fit rotary carvers for class use. Transtint dyes, hair dryers, papertowels, gloves, applicators, gourds; cut, cleaned and dyed. I will also have some masks if students forget. I will have a handout with step-by-step how to draw the dragonfly scene, but will also have a clear drawing and transfer paper for those who would be more comfortable tracing. Pencils, rulers, erasers all provided. Round reed, needle, waxed linen thread and a drill will also be provided for those that would like to add a rim treatment.
STUDENT SHOULD BRING
Students must bring a rotary carver. It would be to your benefit to have a universal chuck or collets of your own to accept the 3/64 dental bit. A mask and a small round regular bit (not diamond) for removing background. An old shirt or apron might be helpful too. If you have a heat gun or hair dryer it would be helpful also.
For a savings of $5.00 students may bring:
Gourd dyed and cut, we are using cannonballs, cut a 2 1/2 inch circle at the top. Mine will be dyed a dark green.
WALK INS If they have a rotary tool and come within the first 15 min
Walk-ins welcome if class is not full (must bring rotary tool and come within first 15 minutes)
Minimum # Students: 4
Maximum # Students: 12
