Students will learn to create a step pattern with waxed linen thread as a rim treatment on a gourd. Some experience coiling is recommended. Students will learn to switch colors of thread to create a step pattern. They will coil two or three rows using three colors of thread on multiple needles. For instructional purposes all students will do the same pattern. Instructional handout will be provided with additional patterns.
The Instructor will provide the following:
Gourd-drilled, painted interior and stained exterior, ready to begin coiling
3 spools of 4 ply waxed linen thread
10 yards 4/32" fiber rush
3-#20 tapestry needles
Instructional handout
Students should bring:
Basketry shears or heavy duty scissors
Small sewing scissors
Students may save by bringing their own following supplies: (savings up to $45.00)
$10.00-Gourd-drilled, finished inside and outside, ready to begin coiling. Gourd should be 5-6 inches in diameter. Openning MUST be 4 1/2 inches across. Drill 24 equally spaced holes 1/4 inch below the rim. Use a 1/16 inch drill bit to make the holes.
